3rd Major Scale Position and its chords

In this lesson you will learning the 3rd position of major scale and the scale chords that fits this position.

In the following video I am explaining the 3rd major scale position and chords in detail.

B major Scale 3rd Position

Here is the first option to play the 3rd Major scale position with stretched finger on D string.

B major Scale 3rd Position

This is the second option to play the 3rd Major scale Position without any stretched finger.

B

This is a major chord with the root note on low E string. This major chord could be anywhere on the guitar and it will be named based on the second finger on low E string which is the Root note.
In this case we are playing B chord with the root note on low E string which is on the 7th fret.

C#m

This is a minor chord with the root note on A string. This minor chord could be anywhere on the guitar and it will be named based on the first finger (index) on A string which is the Root note. In this case we are playing C#m chord with the root on A string which is on the 4th fret.

D#m

This is a minor chord with the root note on A string. This minor chord could be anywhere on the guitar and it will be named based on the first finger (index) on A string which is the Root note. In this case we are playing D#m chord with the root on A string which is on the 6th fret.

E

This is a major chord with the root note on A string. This major chord could be anywhere on the guitar and it will be named based on the first finger (index) on A string which is the Root note. In this case we are playing E major with root on A string which is on the 7th fret. So the first finger should bar the 3rd fret.

F#

This is a major chord with the root note on D string. This major chord could be anywhere on the guitar and it will be named based on the first finger (index) on D string which is the Root note. In this case we are playing F# major with root on D string which is on the 9th fret. So the first finger should bar the 5th fret.

G#m

This is a minor chord with the root note on D string. This minor chord could be anywhere on the guitar and it will be named based on the first finger (index) on D string which is the Root note. In this case we are playing G#m with root on D string which is on the 6th fret.

A#mb5 (F#dim)

This is a diminished chord with the root note on D string. This diminished chord could be anywhere on the guitar and it will be named based on the first finger (index) on D string which is the Root note.
In this case we are playing A#diminished chord with the root note on the D string which is on the 10th fret.

B

This is a major chord with the root note on G string. This major chord could be anywhere on the guitar and it will be named based on the first finger (index) on G string which is the Root note.
In this case we are playing B chord with the root note on the G string which is on the 4th fret.

Here are 7th chords in the key of B major. All these chords could be played in any key based on the root notes (R)

Bmaj7

This is a Major7 chord with the root note on E string. To play Bmaj7 place the root note on 7th fret E string.

C#m7

This a minor7 chord with the root note on A string. To play C#m7 place the root note on the 4th fret A string.

D#m7

This a minor7 chord with the root note on A string. To play C#m7 place the root note on the 4th fret A string.

Emaj7

This is a Major7 chord with the root note on A string. To play Emaj7 place the root note on 7th fret A string.

F#7

This is a Dominant7 chord with the root note on A string. To play F#7 place the root note on 9th fret A string.

G#m7

This a minor7 chord with the root note on D string. To play G#m7 place the root note on the 6th fret D string.

A#m7b5 (A#halfdim)

This a minor7b5 chord or half diminished chord with the root note on D string. To play A#m7b5 place the root note on the 8th fret D string.

Bmaj7

This is a Major7 chord with the root note on D string. To play Bmaj7 place the root note on 10th fret D string.

Bmaj7

This is a Major7 chord with the root note on G string. To play Bmaj7 place the root note on 4th fret G string.
